In the fourth quarter of 2024, the top navigation and maps applications on the Android platform in South Africa showcased varied performance trends. This analysis provides insights into their weekly downloads and active user metrics, based on data from Sensor Tower.

Waze Navigation & Live Traffic saw a notable increase in weekly downloads, starting at 15K in early October and peaking at over 19K by mid-December. Active users initially decreased from 554K to 457K but rebounded to exceed 617K by mid-December.

Offline Maps, GPS, Speedometer experienced fluctuating downloads, peaking at 11K in early November. Active users also saw growth, reaching over 10K in early December, before a slight decline.

Voice GPS & Driving Directions downloads increased steadily, from 3.6K to nearly 8K by the end of December. Active users followed a similar trend, growing from 8.5K to over 11K.

Google Maps maintained a stable presence with active users ranging from 14.6M to 16.1M throughout the quarter. Downloads showed moderate fluctuation, peaking at 6.8K in late November.
